Your chicken is most likely taking a dust bath! Chickens will often take dust baths ever 1-2 days. It is incredibly important for chickens to take dust baths for a number of reasons. Most importantly, dust baths offer chickens a chance to clean their feathers and get rid of mites, lice and other parasites!

Why Is My Chicken Not Laying Eggs?
There are a few reasons why chickens may not stop laying eggs. Such as lack of daylight and poor nutrition. However, with our backyard chicken rentals, there is no need to worry. We rent chickens from May – October in Calgary and the surrounding area. We are blessed to have plenty of daylight during those months so your rental chickens will be happy and won’t need any additional light. In addition, we provide a nutritious feed which contains everything your chicken needs to lay beautiful eggs.
Although, your chicken may stop laying eggs for a little while. That can be due to stress from moving to a new home or even from predators! If you have a pet dog in your home and are worried about the interaction between the animals, start off slow. Keep your chickens in the run while you let your dog out so they can grow accustom to the chickens. You need to ensure that your chickens have an easy transition to their new home and soon enough they will start laying eggs.
Why Is My Chickens Comb Pale/Drooping?


The chickens comb is an indicator of her health. If a comb is pale or drooping, please contact us! We will come to check in on the bird and do a site check. Your chickens comb should be a beautiful shade of red and stand straight up.
If your chickens comb is a pale pink that could be a sign of anemia caused by mites or lice. Or the pale comb could be a sign of heat stress and dehydration. Since our rental chickens will be with you during the heat of summer, we ask that you watch out during intense heat waves. Please make sure chickens have enough water and access to shade to keep cool.
Why Is My Chicken Laying Soft Eggs?
There are a few reasons why chickens lay soft eggs. Firstly, It can be due to age of the chickens. When a chicken first begins laying eggs, they may be a bit soft. That is because they are still on their starter feed, however once chickens begin laying they need to be fed layer feed. Our rental chickens will come ready to lay eggs and you will be given the proper feed to help their egg production. Another reason chickens lay soft eggs is lack of calcium. You may need to supplement their diet by giving them oyster shell to help harden them up. In addition, you can even give them their egg shells! It is important to crush the egg shells before giving them to the hens, or else they will learn to peck their own eggs!
